The Centenary
Today, March 17, is a day of national holiday to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy. Schools are closed. In 1961, the centenary anniversary, they did not, however, holiday. I remember it well, because in that year I taught in middle school letters of Canino, a small town of Viterbo. On 17 March '61, then, we had lessons till eleven, then ordered the students and went in procession to the top of the country, to bring flowers to a monumentino dedicated to the fallen of the First World War. I was instructed to make the keynote address and I was afraid not to get sapermela: the territory of the feud was "Pope-King", then of Prince Lucien Bonaparte Napoleon's brother, then of Prince Torlonia, not even the birth Ente Maremma was rescued from a situation of common people miserable laborers. Talk to their children a great and generous mother country did not seem the case, I would not understand. I spoke then of the war dead, described them as young people who had left for duty in the trenches, putting aside their dreams: there were those who wanted to be a singer, whom the painter, who won a bicycle, who was a great striker. Real people, not statues. The guys I listened carefully, then returned to school in silence. It was a good day, I think.

The "chaperone"
The newspaper reports that the comments at the International Women's Day also announced the departure dell'ottuagenaria lawyer Anna Maria Secundus, who in years Seventy held a popular book on art criticism "of the Journal on Monday." I had his same office at the "nineteenth century" is a meeting in city galleries. He gave confidence, his visits to exhibitions are conducted in a strictly observant. An elderly, elegant gentleman accompanied him constantly. The gallery was reported that a retired officer who exercises in pure friendship, the task of "chaperone" Miss Secundus. In short, a guarantor of its impeccable reputation. Today, such a task would cause a feminist rally in De Ferrari, but even in those years seemed anachronistic to the unusual partnership. There was a twist: from one day to another, the book Anna Maria Jailer disappeared from the newspaper. Sorry, m'informai and learned that the diligent "chaperone", now on his deathbed, he asked his pupil not to continue with visits to art galleries "because she was not aware that a young woman svolgesse that task without companion. " And the lawyer, although now in his fifties, he heard the last extreme desire "chaperone."

Yara
I read on the nineteenth of Thursday, March 3: "Yara is up on the car of his will of his murderess, a known person, which he trusted. He accepted the move might drive to get home on time within the 19 , as requested by the mother. The little girl was killed a few minutes later. Strangled. "Milena Write instead of Yara and 17.30 instead of 19: you have the exact chronicle of the tragic end of another thirteen, Milena Sutter. It happened in Genoa in May 1971, forty years ago.'s Body Milena was returned from the sea a fortnight later. a life sentence for the crime was a young man, Lorenzo Bozano. refuse to tell, was never possible to prove that he knew Milena. The sentence (after acquittal at first instance) was given by further testing. I remember this history not only for the similarities with the case of Yara, but also because I shake the idea that ongoing investigations will lead to a solution is not obvious, that divide between guilty and innocent. It would indeed be the worst result of tragedy. So I hope in another paper of good fortune after what has led to a breakdown in the airplane to land next to the poor, hard to find the body. Only luck or supernatural event? It 's a disturbing question, but given the circumstances, inevitable.

Welcome Speech For A Ceo
Racing
Dragged by my son Victor, I attended a session auction that included a sketch of the best known part of Eugenio Olivari, "Racing". It 'a work which, in a symphony of blues, bring back the style and spirit of the "Belle Epoque" Genovese: elegant ladies with knots of toilets, men with large panama or held by skipper lined up on wooden ladders Sturla rocks to watch the races sailing. That masterpiece was bequeathed by Max Oberti the Italian Yacht Club and is the dream of all our own art collectors: if they had exhibited at the exhibition "Mediterranean" in progress at Palazzo Ducale would have annihilated the most famous paintings of seascapes made to reach from all over Europe. The sketch at auction was disputatissimo: a great little 'more than an A4 sheet, is left for twenty thousand euro. Attending the competition was laughing, thinking back to forty years ago when I attended the literary prize "Caffaro" just a biography of Olivari that had cost me years of research. This time the award was not awarded because the jury felt that we could not give a "prize so important" to work (mine) "dedicated to a completely unknown artist." Today to take home a sketch of the "Race" It takes a kilo of gold. And the award Caffaro no longer exists.
